Please register to receive the full unlimited version. =============================================================================== What's new in version 0.3? This new version supports file conversion from 3c/Siena OPL/OPP type text files to Series 5 OPL files. This means that when the file is received by the Series 5 it is recognized as an OPL file, displayed with the OPL icon, and if you tap on the ICON the OPL editor is started. I have noticed that the Series 5 does not always immediately recognize the file as an OPL file but displays it with a question mark. At present, I have found three ways to get the correct OPL icon displayed. You can cycle the Psion off then on, close then reopen the folder, or select the sort menu and select the current option. These three things appear to force the Series 5 to recheck the files and display the correct icons. Don't know if this is my bug or a Series 5 feature. When I check the file after the icon is displayed it has not been altered from what was sent. The About information has been grouped in a startup screen with the file selection and conversion options moved to a second screen. The current conversion options are AUTO,None,OPL/OPP. The AUTO option checks the file extension of the selected file for .OPL and .OPP and automatically adds the proper UID header/trailer information for a Series 5 OPL file. The .OPL and .OPP extensions are also removed from the file name. The None option sends the file over without any conversion and is normally used for text type files that are going to be imported into an application. By exporting your 3c/Siena Data files in text form you can use the None option to send them to your Series 5 and then import them back into the Series 5 Data application. Be sure to set up your labels first on the Series 5. If you some how got a Series 5 type file on your 3c/Siena you can use the None option to send it to the Series 5 unchanged. Be warned that if the Series 5 receives a file that is not text it will try to decode the information based on the new Series 5 file formats. If the Series 5 does not understand the format it will do a soft reset and you will see the Series 5 Logo screen. What's new in version 0.2? Added a little smarter code to better handle the ending sequence while waiting for the Series 5 to signal it has received the file. What's new in version 0.1? Initial release of program. What is IRSEND5? IRSEND5 is a 10KB opa program that runs on your 3c or Siena and allows it to transfer files to the new Series 5 using the Series 5 Infrared protocol. Since IRSEND5 allows your 3c/Siena to communicate in the new Series 5 protocol there is no additional program to load on your Series 5. General comments. The current CRC generation and checking routine is done with OPL assist and is not very fast. Also part of the conversion to Series 5 OPL format requires an OPL routine that reads every byte and does a couple of compares. As a result you need to be patient while sending a file. There are more messages of progress on the 3c/Siena screen than the Series 5 so watch there first. Where can I get the latest version? A web site has been setup at: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lakes/3947 It has the latest shareware version of IRSEND5 plus access to other Psion IR programs and information about current and future plans. IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT ============================================================================== DISCLAIMER Use this software at your own risk. I will not be held responsible for any damage to you, your machine and/or your information as a result of using IRSEND5. ============================================================================== Requirements: PSION: (Siena or 3c) and Series 5 PC : x86 with IRDA compliant IR port to send opa file to 3c/Siena Operating System: DOS, Windows 3.1, WIN95 (MS-DOS mode only) Files in this package: IRSEND5.OPA 3c/Siena program that transfers files to your Series 5 README.SD5 This file. LOADER.COM Special loader program that allows the IRSEND5.OPA file to be transferred to your 3c/Siena using only the Infrared port on your PC. Installation: Load LOADER.COM on your PC then type "LOADER com#" to load the irsend5.opa onto your Psion. Replace "com#" with the number of your Infrared serial port (ie 1,2,3,4 or port#:interrupt). Install the program irsend5.opa on to your Psion's system screen using the nornal Psion-I key sequence. Syntax of LOADER.COM: LOADER < com 1,2,3,4 > {}'); '); (display help information) Examples: Loader 2 (Send irsend5.opa file using Com2) Loader 3E8:C (Specify custom port:interrupt) Loader 2 /airport (Using Airport external Infrared Adapter) The optional second parameter is used to indicate which type of external Infrared adapter you are using on your PC. Running IRSEND5 Be sure to set the IR Link to run at HIGH power. From the system screen press Psion-L select Infrared then Power setting to HIGH. Select the IRSEND5 icon and press Enter. You will now see the About screen. Press Enter again to get to the conversion and file selection screen. Select your conversion choice (Auto is probably best for now) and then select the file to send. At this point you should select the Infrared Receive option on your Series 5 before pressing the final Enter on your 3c/Siena. Point the two Infrared windows at each other and press Enter on the 3c/Siena. Future changes. I plan on writing an assembler language CRC routine which should be many times faster than the current OPL version. Need your input. Is there a need to transfer in the other direction? I know you would like Agenda sync over the IR link but that would require complete documentation of the two Agenda formats. So until that becomes available in some public file the feature will be on hold. Improvements: If you have any suggestions for improvements please email me with them. Registration: If you find this program useful please register your copy. Registered users will receive the full version that supports sending any size file. To register IRSEND5 online for $21.50 goto: http://www.swregnet.com/855p.htm This is the registration area for IRSEND/IRSAVE so be sure to state your PC type as Series 5 to receive IRSEND5 for 3c/Siena to Series 5 file transfer.
