If you're a developer and wish to run JWIN on the WINS emulator, please contact me for the WINS version of this OPX file. INSTALLATION ************ If you're upgrading from an earlier copy (including betas), overwrite *all* of the old files you have installed with the new copies in this distribution. For the location of new files (eg SYSRAM1.OPX), please read on. If you're a first time user, please follow these instructions... 1) Make sure you can see the "System" folder (see "Preferences" from the System shell) 2) Create the folder of \SYSTEM\APPS\JWIN (on either C: or D:) 3) Copy (using PsiWin 2.0 or another method) "JWIN.APP", "JWIN.AIF", "JWIN.DAT" and "JWIN.MBM" into this new folder. If you want to use the on-line help then copy "JWIN.HLP" to this folder too. 4) If it doesn't already exist, create C:\SYSTEM\OPX. Into this you *must* place SYSRAM1.OPX. 5) You're now ready to run JWIN! It's icon should appear on the Extra's bar, so just click it! About the Program ***************** JWIN for EPOC32 is a port ("transfer") of a program by the same name which runs on the Psion 3a/3c/Siena. Since the EPOC32 machines are totally different, all shareware authors have been forced to rewrite their old program for use on the new machine. Although this is v1.05F for EPOC32, it is based on tried and tested code which is now well into v1.5 on the older machines. The original program was written because I wanted to have a useful collection of general utilities that were quick and easy to access, but didn't take up a huge amount of space. After much development and many refinements, I thought that the program was in an acceptable state to be publicly released, and more importantly, to be of use to other EPOC32 users. When the first EPOC32 machines were released, I tried to port JWIN as soon as possible so that all users could benefit from it's functionality. The program has been fully tested and appears to have no bugs, but if you find any or have a comment/suggestion for future versions then I welcome your input. E-mail me on either: nicko@nildram.co.uk (preferred) or 106023,676 (on CompuServe) Updates of JWIN (and all my other programs) can be found on my web page at: http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~nicko/index.htm About the Author **************** I'm called Phil Spencer and I'm 17 years old from Aylesbury, UK. I've been using OPL16 (on the 3a/3c/Siena) for about 2 years, and this is my first "major" OPL32 program. Luckily, OPL32 is still as easy to use as OPL16 was, so I had no trouble getting to grips with it quickly. That's it (well, I can't imagine anyone would want to know more!). Disabled Features ***************** JWIN is FULLY WORKING shareware. This means there are NO, yes that's correct NO, disabled features in JWIN while it's unregistered. All you will see to remind you to register is a nag screen on startup. If you exceed the 25 day evaluation period (see below), then you will also get a nag screen every time you switch to JWIN. Registration ************ JWIN is distributed as Shareware - it is NOT free! You may use JWIN in it's unregistered form for 25 days. If, after this trial period, you find JWIN useful you MUST register. To register the program on Compuserve, GO SWREG 13871, otherwise you must do one of the following: 1) Send 7 UK Pounds (or 10 US Dollars) OR your foreign equivalent PLUS 10% extra to: Phil Spencer 10 Prebendal Court Oxford Road Aylesbury Bucks ENGLAND HP19 3EY NO FOREIGN CHEQUES (CHECKS) PLEASE. Sorry, I know this is inconvenient, but the banks charge too much to convert and then cash cheques made out to me in foreign currencies - in most cases, they will charge MORE than the value of the cheques (checks) I have to deal with! Please also remember to include either your E-Mail address or a stamped, self addressed envelope so that I will be able to send you your personalised key code which unlocks the program's features and gets rid of the nags. 2) Use the excellent RegNet service on the web and register JWIN by going to: http://www.swregnet.com/757p.htm for Series 5 registrations, or: http://www.swregnet.com/1670p.htm for GeoFox-One registrations. Company/multi-user use of JWIN requires an individual registration for *EACH* copy being used. However, I do offer significant "bulk buy" discounts on JWIN's price. If you want to take advantage of this, please contact me (see above for addresses etc). When registered you will be entitled to any future upgrades FREE, you also get to take advantage of the new versions before many users as they will appear on my homepage BEFORE they're released to other places (e.g. CompuServe's Psion Forum). Finally, you also get a direct say in future developments and more importantly a clear conscience! When it comes down to it, 7 UK Pounds isn't a lot to register and it'll help me develop future versions (and other programs). Besides, I don't have much time free as I'm doing my "A" Levels. So I need an incentive :-) A Brief "How to use me" guide ***************************** Well, it's very easy - play with it and you'll soon get the hang of it! If you need more specific help, try the supplied .HLP file. Please remember though, if you do find JWIN of use to you, then you MUST register after 25 days! JWIN's history ************** To stop this readme file for getting to big, I've decided to leave out a history section. If you really want one (!) then visit my web site (see above) where you can see an on-line copy. Thanks to... ************ In developing JWIN for EPOC32 I was extremely grateful for the help of these people: - Peter Csutora for converting the old Psion 3a/3c/Siena data file to the new EPOC32 format, writing the initial help file and also beta testing! - Andy Waller for his brilliant help with the toolbar icons and the conversion of my old 3x icons, as well as doing some valuable beta testing. - Hans Donner for his major beta testing contributions and also for giving me lots of ideas. - Robert Wigley for beta testing and generally helping to polish the JWIN package. - All the other people who tested JWIN and reported back to me. - And especially all the people who had enough faith (and very good judgement :-) ) to register on the face of the beta versions. ******************************************************************** JWIN for EPOC32 v1.05F (Build 1143) RELEASED Friday 26th December 1997 JWIN and all associated files are Copyright (C) P.K.
