Introduction 2. File Details 3. Installation 4. Running the Program 5. Registration 6. Important Points to Note 7. Other Programs from RMR Software 8. License Agreement 9. Program History 10. Upgrading from S3ABANK INTRODUCTION Welcome to my Personal Accounts Suite for the Psion Series 5. I would like everyone to note that this 32-bit program is not new, but is based on a very mature and very successful 16-bit program produced for the Psion S3A (S3ABANK). Therefore, at this stage the program does not fully utilise the enhanced database handling functions in EPOC 32 and has not yet been properly optimised for size and speed or other extras available in the final 'shipped' version of OPL32. Improvements in these areas will also be incorporated in the later versions. As it stands, this Shareware version is fully-working with no disabled functions, but will allow only a limited number of entries, such as 3 Accounts, 5 Standing Orders, 5 Budget Categories, 5 Shares and 5 Rooms for the Home Inventory etc. Registration will give you more realistic values, such as 20 Accounts and 50 Standing Orders in each Group, and 50 Budget Items, 50 Shares and 20 Rooms. Please note that registration does not involve reloading the program, but simply typing in a registration code to release the 'lock'. FILE DETAILS The program consists of the following essential files: S5Bank.app - The main program file S5Bank.mbm - The icons used within the program S5Bank.aif - The icons used in the System screen And the following optional files which can be loaded as required: Acc_Pic - Optional Opening Picture Acc_Help.hlp - Optional Help File Acc_Adv1.ovl - Optional Advanced Options Module 1 Acc_Adv2.ovl - Optional Advanced Options Module 2 (See later for listing of these extra functions) Acc_Bud.ovl - Optional Budget Categories Module Acc_Exp.ovl - Optional Expense Account Module Acc_Home.ovl - Optional Home Inventory Module Acc_Fuel.ovl - Optional Fuel Consumption Module Acc_Plan.ovl - Optional Financial Planner Module Acc_Inv.ovl - Optional Investment Tracking Module Acc_Util.ovl - Optional Utilities Tracking Module Acc_Prt.ovl - Optional Printing Module Readme.txt - "Get you started" instructions for new users (this file) Readme - The same file in S5 Word format Upgrade.txt - Upgrade instructions Acc_Inst - A 4-part set of Instructions in S5 Word format including: Part 1 - A Tutorial on using the program Part 2 - Instructions on the Optional Modules Part 3 - Instructions on the Advanced Features Part 4 - A Frequently-Asked Questions (FAQ) Section The archive also contains the following control files for use on the PC if you are using PSISETUP to install the program. Accounts.ctl - A control file to install the whole program. Coreonly.ctl - An alternative control file for installing just the core program. Basic.ctl - An alternative control file for installing just the essential files. (PSISETUP, a PC-based auto-installation program is available from my Home Page) Advanced Features The Advanced Options Module 1 offers you the following additional functions: A 'Look Ahead' mode to predict the state of your finances sometime in the future. Default Transactions for adding regular, pre-defined entries. A 'Last Transaction Repeat' function A pull-down page of Account details where you can store such things as Account numbers. Automatic numbering (primarily for cheques (checks), or in my case registrations !) A 'Find' function in the Archive screens. A configurable 'popup' menu for the Toolbar 'View' button. The Advanced Options Module 2 offers you the following additional functions: Export and Import function in various formats, including Quicken. A 'Pay Bills' option, similar to that used in MS Money. Ability to allocate tax (VAT, GST etc) to transactions. Pull-down Info windows giving settings for each Group and Account. INSTALLATION If you have already installed the program from PSISETUP then you can skip this section. However, do note that by default, PSISETUP installs all of the optional modules and the instructions. If you do not wish to use these files simply remove them manually. The only ESSENTIAL files are 'S5bank.app', 'S5Bank.mbm', & 'S5Bank.aif'. To install manually. 1. Create a directory called C:\System\Apps\S5Bank\ (Or D:\System\Apps\S5Bank\) (You may need to select 'Show 'System' folder' in the 'Preferences' menu first) 2. Copy 'S5Bank.app', 'S5Bank.aif' and 'S5Bank.mbm' into that directory. 3. If you wish to load any of the optional modules, or use the opening picture, copy the appropriate files into that directory as well. 4. Note that PSISETUP will load the Help file into that directory and the Instructions into a directory called C:\Documents\Accounts\, which by default is where your main document files will be stored. You may wish to do the same. RUNNING THE PROGRAM Start the program by selecting the 'Extras' from the Application bar and then 'S5Bank'. If you fancy a challenge, you can learn everything you need to about the program by playing with it and checking the effect of each MENU selection, as well as the effect of pressing , , , or , in each screen, by observing the effect of touching various parts of the screen with the pen, and by reading the on-line Help file. However, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, at least read the rest of this file first, for some very important information. My advice is that you then work through the tutorial in Part 1 of the instructions, which will familiarize you with all the basic capabilities of the program. If you do 'fly blind' and get into trouble, please read the rest of the instructions before asking me to help. In particular, if you think there should be a specific function, it is probably there somewhere, so check the instructions before you suggest it to me !! All comments and, of course, registrations, gratefully received. REGISTRATION If you wish to register the program, you can do so by post (snail-mail), or on-line using the SWREG facility on CompuServe, or on the WWW by using RegNet (credit cards). If you are using the postal service, please send a cheque (check) for 20 UK pounds or US$30 or 60DM payable to 'RMR Software' (or the equivalent in 'real money' in your actual currency - no foreign currency cheques please), to one of the following addresses: RMR Software 6001 Natick Court Burke, VA 22015 USA RMR Software c/o 46 Mortimer Road Kempston Bedford MK42 8RE ENGLAND RMR Software c/o PSIOlogic Versand Taunusstrasse 4 D 63589 Linsengericht GERMANY Please note the English and German addresses are the addresses of my 'agents', as I am temporarily in the USA. If you use these addresses, Registration codes will be sent out fairly quickly, but if you send a technical query, it will have to be redirected to me in the US, so might take a few weeks to reply. If you have access, I can be reached quickly on CompuServe, 100023,543 or E-Mail at alanrichey@compuserve.com. The quickest way to register, if you have access to CompuServe, is to use GO SWREG and use Registration ID - 15573. The notification normally reaches me in 24 hours and I can reply with the code quickly, again normally within 24 hrs. (Ignore the question about the disc size when you register, you do not need one) If you wish to register using a credit card you can register on the WWW through RegNet, the Registration Network. RegNet can be reached by e-mail: orders@swregnet.com or on the World Wide Web: http://www.swregnet.com or in the USA by calling 1-800-WWW2REG (1-800-999-2734) or the easiest way is by following the links from my WWW Home page at: http://members.aol.com/alanrichey This program has been allocated the REGNET Number: 782 and this should be quoted. Again, the notification tends to get to me within 24 hours and I reply within another 24 hrs. (Note that paying by this method will involve an extra US$5 handling charge) In each case, I (or my agent) will then send you a personalised registration code to enter (select the option either via the Menu or with ) to remove the 'nag' screens and allow full use of the program. Note that you will NOT need a new copy of the program, all the functionality is already there but just needs 'unlocking' by the registration code. I will also ensure that this code remains forward compatible for future versions of the program so, unlike other programs, I will not be asking for a further fee for an upgrade. IMPORTANT POINTS Please note the following: 1. The configuration file (Accounts.ini) and registration details (Accounts.reg) are saved in the same directory as the application files. although always on the Internal drive, (C:\System\Apps\S5bank\), so don't be surprised if you lose that information (and registration) if you delete these files. 2. Please do NOT try changing the name of, or moving, a Group, directly from the system screen just by renaming the document file. The title you use for a Group is used for all the data files, not just the one in the document folder. If you do wish to move or rename a Group, simply use the 'Save as' file command from within the Program, to save the Group under a new name, change to that new Group, then use the 'Delete Group' command to get rid of the original. 3. I have provided a BACKUP and RESTORE option ( and in the main Accounts screen) to enable you to keep a COMPLETE copy of all your data files somewhere else on the system. Although there were only 4 recorded cases of complete data loss in S3ABANK, I am not so arrogant as to say that the transfer to the 32-bit system was perfect and there isn't a 'bug' lurking in there waiting to trap the unwary. Personally I use this option every couple of days, as well as backing up regularly on a PC. I do think the program is safe, but even I still wouldn't trust it completely. Basically, if you lose some data and you haven't kept a backup of some description, don't expect any sympathy from me !! 4. The program will run quite happily from the D: drive, but I still use the C: drive for non-document data files. If you want to move the progam from the C: drive to the D: drive then copy across JUST the program files, do NOT move any of the data files. If you find the Icon on the Extras bar does not then work, just rename the APP file to something else, then rename it back again. That will refresh the Extras Icon.
