Subject: Kite Festival in Arvada Colorado Aug-20th If you happen to be in or about the Denver Colorado area this coming Saturday, you might want to check out the following at the Arvada Center. If your not familiar with the area, direction to the Arvada Center can be found at the end of this article. --------------------------------------------------------------------- BIKES, KITES AND PUPPETS COME ALIVE A FUN FAMILY FESTIVAL SPONSORED BY THE SCFD AUGUST 20 AT THE ARVADA CENTER Bikes, kites and puppets will take their rightful place as objects of popular art as the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District presents Bikes, Kites and Puppets Come Alive, a free family festival, on August 20 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd. The celebration began in early July with inter-active outreach workshops all over the metro area featuring experts in the field of puppetry and kite building teaching youngsters how to make puppets and kites and how to use them. A triple-header exhibit on Bikes, Kites and Puppets opens in the Galleries of the Arvada Center on August 11. The Bikes and Kites exhibits run through November 6. The Puppets will be in residence through November 13. The SCFD's festival at the Arvada Center on August 20 promises to be one of the most colorful spectacles of the year, with the sky filled with jewel- like kites and the grounds humming with demonstrations of one of man's most venerable and reliable forms of transportation, from antique high-wheelers dating from the beginning of the 20th century to modern day riders performing daredevil stunts to thrill and amaze young and old alike, and puppet shows and demonstrations. Colorado is fortunate to be the home of some of the world's most reknowned kitemakers. Two of those, George Peters and Scott Skinner will be on hand to fly fantastic and giant kite creations. Other kitemakers from across the U.S. and the world, including Martin Lester >From England, will join them to make this a dazzling display. Children and adults can meet them and make and fly kites, too. Entertainment will continue throughout the day, including puppet theater from Opera Colorado, music from the Colorado Symphony and puppet shows with 10 foot puppets and more. Six workshops on making kites and puppets will provide non-stop activity for children. 500 kite kits have been donated by the Boulder kite store Into the Wind for the kite workshops. Children will fly the kites they make on the spot (breezes permitting) and take them home. Bicycle exhibitors will demonstrate in costume of yesteryear how tall 3 wheelers built a hundred years ago are ridden and all will be welcome to visit exhibits indoors that explain background on bikes, kites and puppets. Fun food will complete the festive atmosphere. All activities will be free of charge. Bikes, Kites and Puppets Come Alive is an event funded by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District with support and sponsorship by Boulder's Into the Wind Kite Store, KMGH-TV Colorado's 7 KID* Radio and 96.5 The Peak. If George Peters is doing a Kite Workshop of any type (even if it is aimed at 5-year-olds), you've just got to go. Have a good festival. Andrew -- This is not the account that I usually Email from.
