The following are a series of tests run at a Boeing facility to test the throughput of Cisco routers and hybridges. Test 1: Setup: Two HP 4972A Analyzers were configured to generate packets at a 45% background load using the provided stats program. The com- bined output of the two traffic generators was 14,713 packets (64 byte packet size) per second - as indicated on the traffic monitor screen of the monitors. A Cisco CGS router containing a csc3 processor running the 8.2 o/s software, a 2E2T MCI card w/ v1.5 micrcode was used int he testing. A Cisco AGS+ was used as a sink for directed packets from the packet generators. the AGS+ contained a csc3 processor running 8.2 o/s software and (2) MEC6 cards w/ v1.1 microcode. Packets were addressed to the sink from the traffic generators. A third HP 4972A Analyzer was used to measure traffic using the stan- dard stats program. The following results were obtained: Bridging - 14,713 pps IP - 14,713 pps IPX - 14,713 pps DECnet - 12,900 pps A second test involved using the AGS+ as the router and the CGS as the sink. The tests were run between ports eth/0 and eth/1 of the first MEC card. The following results were obtained: Bridging - 14,713 pps IP - 14,713 pps A/Talk P2 - 14,713 pps A third test involved using the AGS+ as the router and the CGS as the sink. The tests were run between ports eth/0 of the first MEC card and port eth/5 of the second MEC card. The following results were obtained: Bridging - 14,713 pps IP - 14,713 pps IPX - 14,713 pps DECnet - 12,900 pps A fourth test was conducted using 4 HP test generators on two input networks (ports eth/0 and eth/1 of the AGS+) and with the CGS con- figured as a sink (off ports eth/6 and eth/7 of the 2nd MEC). This test involved loading the the ethernets to obtain an aggregate thru- out the cbus in both ip routing and bridging modes. This test was performed w/o the fast switching microcode for the cbus controller. The following results were obtained: Bridging - 15,000 pps IP - 19,200 pps A fifth test utilized the same setup, but packet lengths were changed to 1500 bytes. The 2 ethernets were loaded to 8.5mb/s and 9.5mb/s respectively. No loss of data was experienced in this scenario. The total throughput was measured at 18mb. A sixth test utilized the same setup as test 4, but combined IP and DECnet. The mix was 1/3 DECnet and 2/3 IP. The following results were obtained: Mixed load - 16,900 pps I thought the this would be of interest. Gary Kunis Boeing Network Services ----- End Included Message ----- -------
