Use Logick for a smooth and comfortable Mac interface without all the nicks
and burns you've gotten from other schemes. Once safely housed within your
Kal schemes folder, Logick will make your time at the Mac more soothing, less
irritating, and generally promote eyeball well-beingness (well ... not
really). Logick comes with embedded system icons (which are available as a
stand-alone set at my web locale) and a replacement hard drive icon.
And since you'll now get more mileage out of your tired peepers, come by my
site for more Macintoshy stuff.

Subject: [*] BBEdit Plug-Ins for MacPerl Rel. 5.3
I have written several BBEdit plug-ins that facilitate the use of BBEdit
and BBEdit Lite with MacPerl (a Macintosh port of the Perl programming
language). This is release 5.3 of the plug-ins. The plug-ins included are:
1. Run MacPerl (version 1.1.5) - updated
2. Check Perl Syntax (version 1.1.5) - updated
3. Run MacPerl Front (version 1.0.4)
4. Run File with MacPerl (version 1.1.5) - updated
5. Edit MacPerl Script (version 1.0.2)
6. Shuck (version 1.0)
7. Perl Filters (version 1.1.3) - updated
8. Perl Palette (version 3.1 by Lindsay Davies) - updated
The changes in this release are:
1. The Perl Palette now works with both BBEdit 4.0 and BBEdit 4.5.
2. Added a "Use selected text for script" option to the Run MacPerl and
the Check Perl Syntax plug-ins. If this option is used then selected text
in the active BBEdit window is used as the Perl script sent to MacPerl
rather than all the text in the window.
3. Syntax errors that contain text over multiple lines are now reported
in the error browser (this effects Run MacPerl, Check Perl Syntax, Run
File with MacPerl, and Perl Filters).
The plug-ins are freeware. More information is available on my BBEdit
plug-ins web page:

line in any direction. When you put the last ball in the line all balls
in that line will disappear and you get a free turn.

2) The Volume level is set to a medium level of 4.
3) A message comes up after these actions are completed saying done.
4) After confirming the message, the finder is returned to you.

Subject: [*] FretPet1.0b3 - a killer musical toy
FretPet 1.0 Beta 3
by Scott Lahteine
FretPet is a guitar-oriented musical sequencer which allows you to:
1. Build chords from scales
2. Generate chord harmonies
3. Assign names to chords on the guitar neck or piano keyboard
4. Create and save chord progressions and sequences
5. Visually analyze chords based on tonal relationships
6. Play songs through QuickTime or MIDI output
If you've used other guitar-oriented shareware programs then you
already know how dry, boring, and poorly designed they usually are.
FretPet seeks to remedy this situation by actually being fun to use.

Subject: [*] MenuCapture 1.0.1 (free screen snapshot utility)
Once in a while, I need to take a picture of the screen with a menu
pulled down, in order to document one of my shareware programs. If I did
this every day, I suppose I wouldn't mind paying for a screen capture
program with all the bells and whistles, but as it is, I resist. Years
ago, there was a tiny freeware extension called StillDown, by Gregory M.
Robbins, that enabled command-shift-3 screen shots with menus pulled
down. But StillDown doesn't work with Mac OS 8. Therefore, I decided to
write a new free bare-bones menu snapshot program: MenuCapture.
To install MenuCapture, drop it in your Control Panels folder and
reboot.
To use MenuCapture, open the MenuCapture control panel and click the
"Enable" checkbox. Then pull down a menu, and press the keys command,
shift, and control simultaneously. What happens next depends on what
version of the system you are running. With System 7.6 or later, the
cursor turns into a cross-hair, and you can click and drag to select a
region to be copied to the clipboard. With earlier systems, a snapshot
of the whole screen is saved as a picture file on your disk.

The chi-squared test is one of the most important tests in statistics. It
tests whether the observed frequencies in a distribution differ
significantly from the frequencies which might be expected according to some
'assumed hypothesis'.
QuickChi is a programme for carrying out a 2x2 chi-squared test. Version
1.0.1 fixes a bug whereby not all data fields were checked for expected
frequencies being sufficiently high. Some cosmetic bugs have also been fixed.
QuickChi should run on any Mac and is freeware.

Subject: [*] Smart Scroll 3.1aJ - Japanese Version
This is the Japanese version of the Smart Scroll package.
Smart Scroll brings two features of Apple's advanced Rhapsody operating
system to today's Mac OS users.
Smart Scroll enhances regular scroll bars so they show how much of a
document is displayed in a window. The indicator thumb in scroll bars
becomes proportional: If a window is displaying half of a document, the
thumb will be half the scrollbar size.
This gives you an idea of how large the document is, without having to
scroll the window to find out. Try it for yourself, it speeds browsing the
Net or going through your email, for example.
Smart Scroll also adds Live Scrolling, which updates the display as you drag
the scrollbar thumb. Just release the thumb when you see the part of the
document you want: no more guessing where you'll end up!
All scrollbars benefit from these improvements, even those hidden in Open
and Save dialogs. After a few days of Smart Scroll, going back to regular
scroll feels like something is missing!
New in version 3.1:
*Supports ClarisWorks 4 and 5
*Supports Netscape's own live scrolling
*Support for CodeWarrior's own live scrolling (tested up to Pro1)
*Live Scrolling can now be turned off
*Exlusions List is now preserved after Restart
*Misc. changes and fixes

Subject: [*] Spike 15
Spike 1.5 Abstract:
Spike, by YAV Interactive Media (http://www.yav.com) is the first
batch-processing data-spike detection and analysis tool for QuickTime
movies. Spike solves the stutter and glitch playback problems of CD-ROM and
Web-based QuickTime files. Given a batch of QuickTime movies, Spike
determines which among them will provide optimal playability from a range
of deployment platforms and media. Offering many of the features of Apple's
long-discontinued MovieAnalyzer, Spike is compatible with QuickTime 2.5 and
beyond.
Spike 1.5 is a major upgrade to earlier versions of Spike and introduces
new datarate and spike analysis algorithms, removes all expiration dates
(including those for unregistered copies), adds a number of new
enhancements, and lowers the price.
Current QuickTime compression software reports the average data rate of
files; many people mistakenly use this figure to make decisions about the
suitability of compressed video for their playback targets. A QuickTime
movie can have a perfectly acceptable average data rate while still
containing data spikes that will seriously disrupt playback on any machine.
Spike identifies these problems and offers a suite of options for
controlling their detection. Other features include detailed data-rate
graphs, "Spike Alerts" and reports in frames-per-second and SMPTE, several
preview options, and batch processing.
Until registered, this "lite" version is completely functional except that
it restricts the number of files in a batch and that the "presets" menus
are not available.

VCD Player simplifies the process of playing video compact discs on your
Mac. With most other players, you only get video in a tiny area of your
screen, or in an area surrounded by a huge border of some sort. VCD
Player smoothes the video playback process and allows you to watch
full-screen movies in the MPEG format, without any headache-inducing
distortion to make the movie unwatchable. There are various configurable
options that control sound and playback, and just as with a sound-only CD
player, you can control which track to start watching.
System Requirements
- Power Macintosh
- QuickTime 2.5 or later
- QuickTime MPEG Extension 1.0 or later
What's new in 1.4.0?
- Supports Full Screen, Normal Size, and Double Size playback.
- Supports Audio Balance.
- User can press Esc key to stop playing.
