Subject: [A] Copying large files to Jaz
If the number of your small files excedes 1400 you can blame Apple,
although they do advertise the ability to handle much larger number of
files, my finder usualy chockes after 1600 and when trying to copy them
from one drive to another I get, what I call, "infinite reads". That is a
looooong read, then copy two files, followed by anther loooong read and so
on. Those loooong reands are especialy notisable on the slow drives, such
as SyQues (I have a 44) or Jaz.

The difference is purely a software bundle price. The modems are
identical, and in any case, with PCMCIA modems (except GV, some of which
are perverse) you do not need any special magic drivers to get them to
work with your PowerBook. So, you can shop for the cheapest you can find
and it will work. I use a Microcom TravelCard 28.8P (upgraded to
33600bps) in my PowerBook 1400, with excellent results.
If you're using MacOS 8 there is no real reason to care about what
software does or does not come with the modem, because MacOS8 includes
Apple Telecom, which will handle most users' faxing needs.

Ken, I work on the 4D database residing on NT server. Since my development
is done from a Mac, and my template (database) is too big for a flopy, I
need to share files with NT.
Here's how I do it:
You must have a Window NT 4.0 or later
in it there are "Services for Macintosh" (SFM)
in control pannel choose Network
select service tab
choose services for the macintosh
from Appletalk properties select default adapter - that's your ethernet
card and zone...
once you know what to look for you will find more help on the subject as
you go along,
Oh, and by the way, I am loged in at the Administrator level...
good luck

Would CD-RW's burn disks as reliably as CD-R's??
The basis for my question is the experience with preceding technologies:
Remember SyQuest? 200Mb drive would write 88Mb and 44Mb cartriges, but not
as reliably as the original 88 Drive-88Mb cartridge or 44 Drive-44Mb
Cartridge.
Remember Super-Drive?? That's the good old floppy. The HD 1.44Mb drive
does write on DD 800K floppy, but not as reliably as 800 DD Drive did on
the 800K floppy.
Thank you in advance...

You can set up a service under NT Server 4.x that enabled Mac OS
computers to connect to Windows NT servers. It's a simple task for a
sysadmin to accomplish and is fairly robust. It essentially allows a Mac
user to access an NT server as if it were an AppleShare server. If you
proceed with this, make sure your NT server is running with the latest
service pack which fixes some important bugs.
I've had no troubles with OS 8 accessing NT, but I do believe that Apple
has cleared up some issues with the upcoming Mac OS 8.1 Update.
Hope this helps,
Chris

I don't know what possibilities Claris Emailer offers besides BinHex,
but you can urge your Win95-lover to get Aladdin's Un-Stuffer for
Windows. I think the (compressed, self-expanding) file is named
UNSITINS.EXE at Aladdin's site .
A utility to de-binhex for Windows is also available somewhere.
Sorry, I don't remember right now, but I suggest to search
.
Or you can use ZipIt 1.3.8 to supply a Windows-friendly compressed
format - .
Good luck, Christian.

I wish the FIND command had an option to find invisible files, but
unfortunately it does not. Has anyone written a utility that can find
hidden files? (I know how to make them visible with ResEdit, but I have to
locate them first.)

Download Cache22
from Newer

Check whether the date and time also reset to something strange. If so,
you need to replace the battery on the mainboard.
Best wishes, Christian.

Don=B4t know about PC Exchange, but I know for sure that DOSMounter95 can
read/write and even format any removable media in Windows formats. In
contrast to PC Exchange it maintains the Win95 long filenames which is
important for me when I shuffle around HTML files. In Switzerland, it is
available for about 150 Swiss Francs, if I am not totally mistaken.

Take some "extra bucks" and buy a "parallel-to-SCSI" cable. This is a
one-time investment which enables you to attach a SCSI-Jaz (or any other
SCSI device) to any PC (as well as to any Mac, but there you don't need
this adapter-cable). Ever thought about how you would connect a PP Jaz
drive to a Mac???
Best wishes, Christian.

know where I might be able to find a copy of the quicktime file? Thanks

We are operating a Windows Nt server 4.0 (4-2 gig hardrives with a 200
mb Pentium ).It is connected via thin ethernet to 3 Mac's. We keep the
applications on the Mac's while running all our files from the server.
We are inconsistently getting file corruptions (end of file comments)
with our large 20 mb to 120 mb image files. Suggestions?
