I don't have a recent version of After Dark, so your mileage may vary as to the value of what I'm about to offer. :-) A couple of (hopefully) provocative questions: Can After Dark play .mov files created elsewhere? Are the filetype/creator codes of your AD .mov file MooV/TVOD ? If not, does changing them allow the file to work in Kaboom. An observation and/or wild guess: I have a screen saver that displays a slideshow of "JPEG" pictures, but these pictures cannot be viewed in any other application I have onhand. They must be encrypted in some way so that only the screen saver can recognize them. I'm wondering whether your .mov file may be protected in a similar way, so that only After Dark can play it. Good Luck. Another thing I would highly recommend is not using Netscape for e-mail. Try one of the other SMTP clients like Eudora. I also have a 6100 with 7.6.1 so my hardware configuration is probably nearly the same as yours. One more thing worth mentioning is that the Quickseek search extension had caused me serious type 11 errors when I used to try and connect via Netscape with 7.5.5. I'm not sure if this problem persists with 7.6.1. Apple's OT/PPP is available from their web page at www.info.apple.com. Qualcomm are the makers of Eudora. They are at www.eudora.com. But in your case, there must be some settings in the terminal program to decode unusual (well, 'unusual' depending on who you are) charsets such as iso-2022-jp which, BTW, is the standard encoding format for Japanese characters. It's a shame that MIME didn't prevail over this and other bewildering array of so-called "standards." Antoine, according to Apple's Mac OS Manager, System 8 needs a minimum 040 machine to run. Your C650 has a 040 processor, so you'll be fine. I'm starting to feel like Andy Rooney. Apologies to non-US types who don't get the reference. For US types who don't get the reference, try CBS at 7:00 Sunday evenings. It is often worth the bother. Is anyone else as annoyed with Netscape 4 as I am? First off, it is huge. Second, it seems to provide *less* than 3. My first annoyance was the way 4 handles the news. I apparently cannot see a news group unless I subscribe to it. OK, I see the tradeoff. In 3 it took a tad bit shy of forever to load up all newsgroups. Especially from home on my piddling 14.4kb connection with the university. But I could see and maybe browse a group that I'd not ordinarily pay attention to. Under 4 I see the newsgroups I've subscribed to much more quickly, but I have to make an effort to see what I might have missed. And then make the effort to wipe those (generally) useless puppies after I've looked. What idiot decided *that* was a great idea? And the floating palette that takes up screen space instead of the drop-down menu? Gag me with a spoon! I've wiped Netscape 4 (but kept the installer in case someone convinces me the new version is a Good Thing) and -- with luck -- I'll be able to get my system back where it was before this latest improvement. PowerWaves are regular macs, as far as installing a system. You don't need anything special from Power. There _should_ be a Power CD with the machine that has some useful software on it, though. It may just have System 7.5.2, but the Apple updaters work fine with that system to get you up to 7.5.5. System 7.6.1 will work fine, too. It uses the Tsunami logic board, and allows interleaving of memory. There is an Extension (or two) from Novell that you need to work with the network. It's free and available on the net, I'm pretty sure. For PowerWave info, check out the PowerComputing site and the PowerWatch site.
