At least making an attempt to give their mail some of the features that less expensive services have, not to mention bringing their charges in line with otherinternet providers. My condolences to any body who upgraded to their new mail service only to find it slower than the old one, that half the mail was being lost, the other half was being sent in triplicate and of course after all that being toldthat it was impossible to go back to the older reliable service. That's my grouch, in a consumer society where only good suppliers survive, they shouldn't unless they change. The application's pretty minimalist in design but gets the job done. It combines a huge feature set with a really easy to use Mac-like interface. With DiskTracker, you can quickly and easily create a catalog of every file on every one of your floppy disks, hard drives, CD-ROMs, optical drives, servers, or whatever. Naturally, DiskTracker can read into StuffIt and Compact Pro archives and self-expanding applications. After scanning your disks, you can then search the catalog at unbelievable speeds with the powerful searching facility (including multi-parameter and duplicate file searching). You can easily create professional looking disk labels with the built in disk labeling facility and label template designer. Features include: * View the contents of scanned volumes in a familiar easy-to-use System-7-style file list. * Built in (fast!) virtual memory scheme ensures that you won't run out of memory, even when scanning huge volumes and CD-ROMs with only 600K of allocated RAM! * Intelligent disk scanner can operate in the background and allows either scans of online volumes and servers or floppy disks (insert disks one at a time to scan them). * Launch files directly from the program, or have the finder display them for you. * Fast, multi-parameter (use AND, OR, or XOR) searches. Search on almost 20 different criteria! * Really powerful disk labeling system allows completely automated disk label production. * Plus much, much, much more! DiskTracker requires System 7.0 or later and at least 700K of available memory. Changes in 1.1.1: * Crashing bug when printing labels fixed. * Change disk serial number now works correctly for non-conflicting serial numbers. * User's can now choose whether to have the disk scanner scan physical or logical file sizes. * Bug where temporary file isn't always deleted fixed. * Multiple redraw glitch with resizing window fixed. * Minor redraw glitch with greyscale 3D buttons fixed. It is really hard to interface something to Macintosh unlike old Apple II or IBM-PC. The slot of AppleII and ISA(or EISA) of IBM-PC(or compatible) has relatively simple structure and protocol. Currently PCI bus or direct slot of Macintosh is too complex for personal hobbyist to interface something like ADC, DAC, digital port. "SerialControl" might solve this problem somewhat. "SerialControl" is application(including sources) and hardware device(to make by yourself). It uses serial port and provides 8 TTL outputs and 8 TTL inputs with current circuit, but you can easily expand to interface to other device like ADC or DAC. You require special LSI CY233 from Cybernetic Micro Systems. Actually, CY233 is powerful LSI for serial-parallel conversion and network. "SerialControl" just utilizes one of its operation modes. Only demerit of this LSI is price. The price is $45 each(16$ per 1000) except S/H. Foreigner may pay more. This "SerialControl" is absolutely freeware.
