We have scripts that check for that, and, baring (sp?) a bug, that catches almost all cases of missing files. Now, last week, we had some trouble with a setting on one of the Macs that was processing the files. The result was it uploaded .hqx files in macbinary format. Ops! The archivists then removed the files and have been adding them back in, slowly. I suspect that is why lots of files have gone missing. We also just stumbled across the same thing (i.e. -- we were bitten twice). This means my lunch hour today will be spent writing a script that will prevent these from being added to the archive (thus prevent the [*] from appearing till the format is correct) and will also make sure the binhex is in the correct format so that a whole binhex file does not appear in the .abs files. It draws, in two dimensions, a tree-like silhouette, using fractal techniques. The construction of the tree is very simple: each branch has two children branches that are a certain fraction of the parent's length, and are at a certain angle to the parent. The process of adding subbranches is continued to a certain depth (default 14 subbranches). Randomness has been introduced to produce tree silhouettes that more closely match actual trees. The randomness is gaussian (ie uses the normal distribution), and affects both the length and angle of the branches. The entire model is generated and stored in memory before being drawn. The tree is different every time the program is run .. just like a real= tree! ( ... trade them with friends!) This file may be included on the info-mac CD-ROM. It is like Unix command "touch". To run the program, it requires System 7.1 or later. Under System 7.5, touchMe is also AppleScriptable and allows to accept drag & drop operations. The program is written under the Metrowerks C++ application framework of CodeWarrior PowerPlant. And, the package includes a set of its source codes. Changes since 1.1.1, published on August 8, 1996 - New. You can now drag the date time string among the edit fields. - New. For AppleScript commands "touch" and "fetch", they are now accepting both single file or a list of files as target files. - New. With the option-key pressed, Set-Present-Time button will clear the time part, that means a midnight. - Bug. It sometimes failed to hilite the border of touchMe window when you drag the files with option-key pressed. Fixed it, I hope. - New. The C++ compiler was changed to CW11 from CW9 of CodeWarrior PowerPlant. Due to this change on LApplication class, I have to update my CHelpMenu class to enable the "Help touchMe" item of the help menu. - New. Added an Apple Guide file. "SerialControl" is application and hardware device to control external devices using Macintosh through serial port of Macintosh. It is really hard to interface something to Macintosh unlike old Apple II or IBM-PC. The slot of AppleII and ISA(or EISA) of IBM-PC(or compatible) has relatively simple structure and protocol. Currently PCI bus or direct slot of Macintosh is too complex for personal hobbyist to interface something like ADC, DAC, digital port. "SerialControl" might solve this problem somewhat. "SerialControl" is application(including sources) and hardware device(to make by yourself). It uses serial port and provides 8 TTL outputs and 8 TTL inputs with current circuit, but you can easily expand to interface to other device like ADC or DAC. You require special LSI CY233 from Cybernetic Micro Systems. Actually, CY233 is powerful LSI for serial-parallel conversion or network. "SerialControl" just utilizes one of its operation modes. Only demerit of this LSI is price. The price is $45 each(16$ per 1000) except S/H. Foreigner may pay more. This "SerialControl" is absolutely freeware. You can use this circuit, source, and application for your personal use(absolutely not for commercial use). If you are going to include in CD, magazine, FTP server, or web server(except Info-Mac archives and its mirror server), please let me know. processed by infomac helper bean@amug.org [Archived as /info-mac/comm/serial-control-01b.hqx; 113K] ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Feb 1997 09:28:04 -0700 From: ishi@NetLaputa.or.jp Subject: [*] SimpleText Color Menu 2.2.1J - submission SimpleText Color Menu 2.2.1J is the Japanese version of Alessandro Levi Montalcini's original. In Snavely it is your job to control two big-nosed, wriggly snakes. You have to keep them from wandering off the edge of the playing board, and maneuver them so they cross paths, creating an "egg" and scoring points. As you progress through the levels of Snavely, your snakes encounter a variety of objects -- some that are useful, and some that make trouble for you and your snakes. Snavely takes only about one minute to learn, but the complexity, difficulty and strategic possibilities increase with each successive level, so it should take you a long, long time to get bored with the game. Complete instructions to Snavely are within the game, under the Apple menu. Snavely is completely non-violent, making it suitable for all ages and all sensibilities, while the higher levels of the game present a hefty challenge even for experienced arcade-game-fiends. Snavely can be played by one person, or by two people playing cooperatively (one person controlling each snake). The latter option has been applauded by parents for the unique opportunities it provides for cooperative play for two children or for a parent and child. Snavely is simple to learn, but not simple-minded. For example, the "reward" objects you encounter are not just arbitrary "power-ups". They are meaningful tools that you can make use of to your advantage, or misuse to your peril. Snavely is a professional quality game with smooth, fast animation, multi-channel sound, background music, and all that cool stuff. This is version 1.0.4 of Snavely.
