It can be described as "Bomberman meets Doom". Actually, I took the basic
Bomberman idea and dropped it in a "Super-Deformed Doom" scenario (whatever

BOOM's main features are:
- Smooth sprite based animations in 256 colors

Cannons and Castles 2.0.2
(C) 1997 by Andy Lyttle
This is a Macintosh port of an Apple II game called Cannons and Castles.
It's a two-player game; each player gets a castle on either side of a hill
and must try to blow up the other player by typing in the angle and
velocity of their shot. Version 2.0 added color, more stability, the
ability to save games, Balloon Help, and several other features.
Versions 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 fix bugs that caused the game to be unplayable on
machines running System 6 and color not to be recognized on some newer
PowerMacs, plus a few other minor improvements.
Cannons and Castles 2.0.2 is Shareware; you may use it for 30 days, after
which time I ask that you pay the $10 fee.
Cannons and Castles requires HyperCard 2.2 or higher, or the HyperCard
Player 2.2 or higher. HyperCard 2.2 requires System 6.0.5 or higher
(compatible with Mac OS 8).

FC DropMail
Description: File Translator & Transfer Gateway for FirstClass systems
Author: EXPERIMENT IV Development Distributed By: VIZ-Soft Development &
SoftArc Resellers Price: $95 per user license. Site licenses are
available Platform: Macintosh application, gateways to FirstClass
Servers for Windows NT and Macintosh
FC DropMail is a Drag and Drop FirstClass gateway application which
transforms and uploads standard text and graphic files to FirstClass
user mailboxes, conferences or both. Using Claris XTND or DataVIZ's
MacLink Plus translators, FC DropMail translates text messages from
Word, Word Perfect, Claris Works and other applications into FirstClass
messages, complete with graphic attachments. FC DropMail can also be
used as a file transfer utility, transferring files without the need of
the FirstClass Client.
Drag and Drop file translation, conversion and uploading to FirstClass
has never been easier.
XTND or MacLink Plus translators are used to "process" text and graphic
documents dropped onto the FC DropMail icon. FC DropMail then
immediately connects to FirstClass and sends the message content to a
pre-determined address, or it asks for the required addressing
information.
Populating conferences or bulk document uploads now becomes as easy as
dragging the contents of a folder onto a FC DropMail application icon
conveniently located on your Macintosh desktop.
You can continue to manage all your documents using popular word
processing applications, then translate and upload these documents to
FirstClass. FC DropMail maintains full stylized text, formatting and
picture support. Imbedded document graphics are translated to
FirstClass message attachments. FC DropMail also translates JPEG files
into standard PICT files.
The FC DropMail's low overhead makes it an ideal utility for simple file
transfers when upload speed and convenience is preferred over the
FirstClass client interface. Setup and configuration of FC DropMail is
easily accomplished using the familiar FirstClass Gateway configuration
forms. You can choose to either translate documents or simply upload
them as attachments. The number of items which can be translated at any
time is only limited by available memory.

This is a very simple and basic Scripting Addition (osax) that allows the
user to figure out the name of the driver associated with a named storage

tryig to figure out if the mounted volume was a 'Zip', 'Jazz', or

the guesswork. Assuming that the drive uses the vendor specific drive,
most drives can be identified by the name of their driver. All you need

Subject: [*] Gif.gIf.giF (68K)1.2.4J - Japanese Version
This is the Japanese version of Gif.gIf.giF. This version is designed for
68K machines.
Gif.gIf.giF is a simple program for producing GIF animations, and may be
used to quickly produce animated demonstrations of software that can be
placed on the web. The animations are viewable with Netscape Navigator 2 and
the Macintosh version of Microsoft Internet Explorer without add-ons,
plug-ins, or helper applications.
Gif.gIf.giF can produce small animated GIF files since the GIF standard
allows for an animation to describe only the changes between frames, rather
than entire frames. Placing animated GIF files on web pages does not require
CGI or JAVA programming, and does not require special HTTP servers.
Changes in version 1.2.4J
- Bug fix: improved the interface appearance on systems using black and
white displays and MacOS 8. Some windows had black backgrounds, making it
difficult to see and use controls.
- Bug fix: animations captured using an unregistered version of the program
with the display set to fewer than 256 colours could produce GIF files that
were slightly corrupted.

Subject: [*] HTML Colors v1.1
HTML Colors will help you design a visually pleasing color scheme for your
web page, allowing you complete control over the text color, link color,
visited link color, active link color, and background color. You choose
the colors using the Apple color picker, HTML Colors automatically converts
them to hexadecimal, and you can then instantly see the results in a
preview window -- without launching a browser. You can optionally restrict
colors to the 216 web-safe colors.
After you've found a color scheme you like, you just press the "copy"
button and paste the text into your favorite HTML editor, such as BBEdit.
The BODY tag appears with all of your color choices in hex format. You can
also copy the BODY tag from an existing HTML document and paste it into
HTML Colors. Poof! HTML Colors will parse the tag and display your colors
in the preview window, ready for editing!
Invaluable, small, and quick. This one goes in your Apple Menu. :)
HTML Colors is US$10 shareware for commercial use. It is ABSOLUTELY FREE

This fully-functioning freeware hypercard stack sings 40 songs using
Macintalk, Apple's Text-to-Speech Software.
With this stack you can also write your own Macintalk songs.
It requires Macintalk in the System Folder.
It also requires Hypercard 2.3 or newer to hear the songs begin sung.
However, even with earlier versions of Hypercard you can write songs and
export them as text files which can be sung by SimpleText.
This stack will also export documents which will let your web page sing
using the Talker Plugin.

Machinko - Pachinko-like game for Mac OS
I wrote Machinko to learn a bit about graphics and animation programming
on the Mac. Like the real game, there isn't much to it. Hopefully you'll
find the graphics pleasing. This could be a fun game for little children
to play, since it takes zero skill to master.
If I get enough interest, meaning, a hundred or so postcards, I'll do a
more realistic and serious version of the game. See the release notes
for where to send postcards and suggestions.

Subject: [*] MacTypingTutor4.1
MacTypingTutor4.1 replaces previous versions (use with System 7 or System 8)
There are ten good reasons to use this typing tutor to learn fast and
accurate typing: It's QUICK in opening and operating. It's EASY to operate.
You can use just what you need because it's MODULAR (five separate work
areas, each teaching different typing skills; each reinforcing the others).
It uses ATTRACTIVE windows. You can work on your typing errors because it's
SMART; it remembers words you mistype (or forgets them if you ask). It also
shows error reports, lets you set speed goals, and suggests in a SUPPORTIVE
way when you should raise or lower goals. It lets you keep records (and
print them) so you see progress over time. The practice materials are
HELPFUL because they also contain typing tips. It's VERSATILE, as you work
on your typing, your spelling and vocabulary will also improve. Most
important, it's INEXPENSIVE.
MacTypingTutor also lets you customize how you work (hide/show typing,
hide/show screen-keyboard, hide/show feedback window). It's FLEXIBLE you
can adjust difficulty level from very easy to hard (this is also a good
feature for children). Program automatically remembers your
work-preferences from session to session. MacTypingTutor comes in the
regular version, a special keyboard version (Dvorak), and several
Non-English versions.

Subject: [*] National Geographic Index 1997
Do you own a collection of old National Geographic issues? Have you ever
tried to find that nice article that you barely remember and which would be
quite useful right now, but you don't know how to dig it out of the
collection?
The yearly index (published since 1983) does not help very much, because
the titles of the articles are quite imaginative but rarely contain the
keywords that let you find out what you need. For instance, how could you
tell that the article "Oldest Known Shipwreck" deals with an archaeological
find in Turkey? (You can find it in the December '87 issue at page 693)
This is the second edition of the list, which spans the years 1983 till
1997: I have copied (with scanner and OCR SW) all the yearly indices since
1983 and have added a handful of keywords (not already in the title
itself), so that the resulting list may be searched with a text editor
(e.g. with the Find and Find All utilities in BBEDIT). The structure of the
list is quite obvious, and the records contain the title, the page number
and the keywords.
My choice of keywords is quite personal, it may be wrong and is certainly
incomplete. Let me know of any mistake that you find in the list: after I
uploaded the first edition of the list I have received feedback from
several people, I wish to thank them all.
Since the first edition there have been some important changes in the way
you can retrieve information on old NG articles: the web page of the
National Geographic Society is greatly improved and features an online
searchable index (check it at http://www.nationalgeographic.com), and the
whole National Geographic Magazine is now on a formidable CD-ROM collection
(if you want to know more on the CD collection, you can also browse the web
pages http://www.mindscape.com and http://www.kodak.com)
If you like this edited index please send me a postcard.
Greetings to all lovers of the National Geographic Magazine.

Subject: [*] PlayerPRO 4.5.9.1 (FAT)
PlayerPRO is a complete music editor software (SoundTracker). You can
use it with any Macs without any specific hardware. PlayerPRO can load
and play following formats: MOD, S3M, Midi, MTM, MADx, OKTA, System 7
sound, MINS, WAV, XI, AIFF, AIFC, MED, 669, IT, ULT and XM.
What is a SoundTracker?
Still uncommon on Macintosh, these music utilities originated on the
Amiga platform, and have then been developed on the Atari ST, IBM PC,
and finally on Macintosh. These soundtrackers are based on a single file
system: the MOD format and its derivatives. The MOD format was intended
to be a compact way of storing music inside games and demos, especially
background music. The files consist of "patterns" of musical notes
inside "partitions" (pattern lists) which can be played in different
order, and more than once. (The number of tracks simulates the number of
musicians a conductor would have in his orchestra; in the case of a 4
track file, the conductor has only the possibility of having 4
instruments playing simultaneously, even when the players can change
their instruments).

Hardware requirements:

System 7 or higher
Minimal resolution: 640*480 / 256 colors
Description:
SET is a game with 81 cards. Every card represents 1, 2 or 3 identical
symbols characterized by different properties like the colour, the shape,
the pattern and the number of the symbols. You have to build up a set by
choosing 3 of the 16 visible cards so that every property is either
identical or completely different for each card. For example: the colours
of the 3 cards must be either the same or completely different. And so on
for the other three properties.
Does this sound too complicate? Just have a look at it, and you will soon
be addicted to SET!
Available in english, german and french!
Comments:
The attached file must be converted with BinHex4 into SET.sea, a
self-extracting archive containing the english, the german and the french
versions of SET.
SET may be included on the commercially available CD-ROM of the archives.

Software & Hardware Tracker II v2.5.1 (December 20th, 1997)
by David-Artur Daix
Software & Hardware Tracker II is a FileMaker Pro 3.0/4.0 relational
database which will help you collect, store and organize useful
information (such as registration codes, serial numbers, product notes,
phone/fax numbers and URLs for software authors, companies and
distributors, etc.) about all your computer products (hardware, software
and freeware/shareware). Even better, you can launch URLs directly from
inside the database, which will then call upon the Internet Config system
to open them with the proper helper applications. That means Software &
Hardware Tracker II can also be used as a powerful Internet bookmark
manager.
Software & Hardware Tracker is a CNET/Download.com and a BizProWeb "pick
of the day".
It's being distributed as shareware and costs $15 (as always, upgrades
are free for registered users). Registrations are handled by Kagi
Shareware.
New in 2.5: Software & Hardware Tracker II is now FileMaker Pro 4 savvy.
New in 2.5.1: Fixes a bug in the Distributor Tracker.

Subject: Active matrix displays
There really are no limits on what type/manufacturer of display a Mac
can use. I have a PowerBook 5300 which I regularly connect to an:
AppleVision Monitor, a 21" Hewlet-Packard Monitor at work, and my
friends 15" Aptiva monitor. In addition with a $100 Focus=99 LTV
presentation device, I regularly connect to my 27" RCA TV at home.=20
Although it is no problem connecting to any display (a $20 adapter is
needed to reach PC/VGA monitors), The real question you need to be
asking is; what kind of resolution and bit depth can I expect from the
new LCD displays. From my experience LCDs have one fixed resolution size
(i.e. 800X600) and bit depth (# of colors) may depend more on your video
card.
Good Luck
