BlackWatch 1.1
A simple Macintosh screen saver.
BlackWatch is a screen saver application that provides the ability to
lock your screen with password protection. It's small, quick, simple,
compatible, and free.
BlackWatch runs on any Macintosh (or compatible) with Color QuickDraw.
This includes pretty much everything except a Macintosh Plus or SE. The
application is distributed as a "fat" binary, with native code for both
68K and PowerPC. It will run in 64K of RAM (128K is recommended).
System 7.0 or later is required.
Changes since version 1.0:
- support for the Appearance Manager, if present (Mac OS 8 and later).
- now draws the Apple logo in six colors!
- fixed a minor problem with checking the "Sleep Now" corner.
Here's what users are saying about BlackWatch:
"BlackWatch is excellent, and will very soon be the minimalist
screensaver of choice for the Mac."
"I like it because it is simple and functional."
"Very useful and great!!"
"The ONLY screensaver I've tried so far that hasn't caused conflicts."
"Addresses the screensaver bloatware issue with style and grace."

Digital Diary=81 allows you can keep track of many on-going and complex
projects, with fingertip access to the current status of each one.
Projects can be arranged in up to 50 main categories. Or if you prefer,
you can use the category level for your projects, and use the next level
down for detailed project subcategories. You can even arrange your
projects over several separate copies of Digital Diary to add yet another
level to your project hierarchy.
Digital Diary=81 employs a double entry method, which records all notes i=
n
both a Day File as well as a Project File. A third location, the 'To Do
List', is reserved for certain types of notes that require future follow
up, such as appointments and project deadlines. Digital Diary=81 ships with
note types arranged in two groups. The first group is set to be recorded in
the To Do List as well as the Project File and Day File. Note types can be
changed, added, or removed at any time. An on-screen reminder appears when
the program is opened on or after the date specified for a future event
listed in the 'To Do List'. Each project can also be assigned a status from
a user-definable menu.
A wide variety of reports can be generated, with information arranged by
project name, status, or note type. Varying levels of password protection
are available to control access to the program.

Subject: [*] EasyMail 1.75a SHAREWARE
Enclosed please find a copy of EasyMail version 1.75a SHAREWARE.
EasyMail 1.75a fixes some bugs found in earlier versions. All users
should update to this new version, either by using the Update file, or by
downloading this entire archive.
PLEASE NOTE: EASYMAIL VERSIONS PRIOR TO 1.75a ARE NO LONGER SUPPORTED.
EasyMail 1.75a fixes a few bugs and incompatibilities found in Mac OS 8.
If you already
have EasyMail 1.75 and are not planning on running it with OS 8, then
this upgrade is not
necessary. If you have any version other than 1.75, then you need to
upgrade all copies
to this new version.
EasyMail is a simple, easy-to-use, yet effective electronic mail
program/system for use with a LAN (local area network). Its purpose is
to provide inter-office communications (within an organization, for
example).
EasyMail provides the following features:
- easy to setup and use
- seemless use with other applications (no inits, cdevs to install)
- message encryption
- up to 99999 users allowed on a registered server (when registered and
a license pack is purchased)
- uses AppleShare to manage its file structure, so its secure and
effective
- PowerPC native and optimized for 680x0 (FAT binary)
- requires NO server software to be run to manage mail/files (simply
install and make sure the server machine is on)
- includes AppleGuide help files for on-line help
- Update function (to provide an easy way to update your copy or to fix
bugs)
- low cost (only US $75 to register the server, including a 5 user pack)
- customizable help files
- support for sending files and folders as well as mail to users
NOTE: EasyMial is not like Eudora, SMTP, SNMP or POP. EasyMail is
similar to PowerTalk, CE Softwares' QuickMail, or cc:Mail (it works over
LocalTalk, EtherNet, or any compatible AppleTalk/AppleShare file system),
yet costs a fraction of the cost.

"Outline" or "Shadow" turned on.
If you keep and enjoy using Lonely Annie the fee is $7.50. For $10 I
will e-mail you a newer version of the font that includes numbers,
symbols, and all the foreign characters. If you need me to mail you a
floppy disk through the U.S. Mail, the fee is $15. Add $5 and I'll also
send you the latest versions of both Messy Annie and Silly Annie. This
fee will basically give you the right to use the font anywhere you want.
If you would like to include Lonely Annie on a CD or floppy shareware
collection there are four little rules. First, remit the regular
shareware fee ($7.50) to me. Second, send me a copy of your collection.
Third, be sure to include the full font package as I have originally
uploaded including this Read Me. Fourth, be sure to indicate that
whatever fee that is charged for your collection does not include the
shareware fee for Lonely Annie. If you need to make any other
arrangements contact me personally.

NetBots is many things. It's an Internet diagnotic tool. It's a system
administrator's utility. It's a web surfing helper. It's an ftp site
checker. It's anything you want it to be. It's a dessert topping.
Basically, NetBots lets you send little helper agents out on the 'Net to

friend comes online, send you a pager when a site goes offline, or launch
Netscape when a web page changes. Since NetBots is totally customizable,
you can do much more. Version 2.5 includes 5 types of bots:
* PingBots - Tell you when a host comes online, goes offline, or both
* PortBots - Do anything you can do with a TCP connection

Subject: [*] New Startup Movie
This is an awesome Startup Movie and Screen that I created using Electric
Image=81 and Adobe=81 After Effects. It starts out with a flag with the MacO=
S
logo on it flowing in the wind. (this is a 3-D model with an effect that
looks like fabric) In the background is thunder booming as an F-18 fighter
jet comes and roars by, the scene fades to an Apple logo and the words
"Starting Up. . .". It's a very dramatic effect. I hope you like this and
I will be adding other StartUp movies in the coming months.
Required Hardware and software:
Macintosh 68030 or better (recommend a PowerPC)
Quicktime 2.5 or later

Subject: [*] ProTYPE v1.1 - Mac to Apple II File Converter
ProTYPE converts files you drag & drop on it to make them better useable
with Apple II computers. It will strip resource forks from text files,
type the files correctly and convert Binscii files. It will also preserve
file/aux types of all kinds of file inside a Binscii wrapper.
It is scriptable (understands AppleEvents) and can be used as a helper
application for Internet programs. So you can tell Netscape or Anarchie
to postprocess all .bsq files with ProTYPE, for example.
Changes from version 1.0:
- conversion of BinScii files with DOS or UNIX style end-of-line formatting
- every text file becomes a ProDOS text file, not just the ones with a
known suffix
- Fat (68K and PPC code)

Subject: [*] Software & Hardware Tracker II v2.0.2
Software & Hardware Tracker II v2.0.2 (November 16th, 1997)
by David-Artur Daix
Software & Hardware Tracker II is a FileMaker Pro 3.0/4.0 relational
database which will help you collect, store and organize useful
information (such as registration codes, serial numbers, product notes,
phone/fax numbers and URLs for software authors, companies and
distributors, etc.) about all your computer products (hardware, software
and freeware/shareware). Even better, you can launch URLs directly from
inside the database, which will then call upon the Internet Config system
to open them with the proper helper applications. That means Software &
Hardware Tracker II can also be used as a powerful FMPro based Internet
bookmark manager.
Software & Hardware Tracker is a CNET/Download.com and a BizProWeb "pick
of the day".
It's being distributed as shareware and costs $15 (as always, upgrades
are free for registered users). Registrations are handled by Kagi
Shareware.
New in 2.0.2: a potential printing problem has been fixed.
Thanks for supporting shareware!
(Software & Hardware Tracker II 2.0.1 may be included on the Info-Mac
CD-ROM and on the AMUG "BBS in a box". It has been checked with SAM 4.5.1)

Startup Doubler makes for quicker startups!
Its software acceleration compensates for sub-optimal disk performance to
make extensions and control panels load faster. Startup your powerbook
faster at airports (and everywhere else!), zap through all those startup
icons! Save time each time you startup your Mac!
Those seconds spent waiting really add up: Startup Doubler makes startups up
to twice faster, depending on the performance of your startup disk and the
number of Extensions and Control Panels in your System!

Subject: [*] suntar 2.1.4
Suntar 2.14 - Suntar is the cheapest way to transfer data between a
Macintosh and
an UNIX workstation if a few, minimal hardware requirements are met. Suntar is
also a MacBinary, BinHex and PackIt extractor hence it may be moderately useful
even to people without access to UNIX machines. It is a program which runs on a
Macintosh and reads and writes a disk in the physical IBM formats
containing data
in the logical tar format. To exchange data is a difficult art - if you want to
fully exploit suntar you should have some basic notions about Mac files - data
and resource forks, the MacBinary format (a common way to store a Mac file in an
UNIX-style file without losing informations) and so on.

Subject: [*] Virtue TrueType font 2.0 - a replacement for Charcoal
Virtue 2.0; November 18, 1997; Price: Free!
Virtue is my guess at Apple Computer's upcoming "Charcoal"
font--scheduled to appear in Mac OS 8.
There is a lot of controversy about this font, and honestly, I think that
most of it is unjustified. Basically, a lot of people do not want this
font to appear in the next OS. I think that this feeling is based on a
"reverse-engineered" font developed by Greg Landweber for his Aaron
extension and Kaleidoscope control panel. Greg built his font from
looking at various screenshots and did a good job at making a very
complete font. However, the spacing information and special characters
characters seemed a little off to me. It seems that Apple couldn't decide
whether Charcoal should have two pixels between the letters or just one.
This leads to a cramped apperance on screen.
So here's what I did: basically, I took his work and tried to space it
how I would if I was making Apple's next font. I studied the "Chicago"
system font and and used it as a template for my font. After about 2
hours of tinkering, I had a bitmap font that looked really good as a
replacement font for Kaleidoscope. About a week later, after tinkering
some more, I think I've made a vast improvement.
