Inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy, Mirkwood is fairly dark and gloomy, as you might expect from something bearing the name of Middle Earth's most notorious enchanted forest. But many people have found the olive greens and browns quite restful, a result, no doubt of the magical elven runes and precious jewels that enliven key points of the interface, including the desktop pattern and system icons that are also part of the package. Although Mirkwood is functional at all color depths, it definitely looks best on computers capable of displaying 1000's or millions of colors. The 256-color palette is simply not able to reproduce the subtle harmonies that give Mirkwood its emootional expressiveness. Extremely useful if in your work you need to switch repeatedly between two or three applications. It should run on any Mac running System 7. Argus is an application switcher inspired on the Windows 95 switcher. Pressing down the activator key (option by default) and the tab key, a window pops up displaying icons of all running applications. The most recently used application's icon (excluding the active one) is selected by default. If this is the application to which you want to switch, you can simply release the activator key, otherwise you can press the tabulator key (while hodling down the activator key) one or more times to switch between all running applications' icons in a round-robin fashion. You can invert the order in which the icons are selected by pressing the shift-tabulator key. When the desired aplication's icon is selected, you release the activator key and selected application is brought to front. You can modify the activator key(s) through the Argus control panel. You can also switch between displaying small icons and large icons in the Argus switcher window. Bye. Is your club day or exploratory block overwhelming to organize? If so please read on. Club Manager is designed by a teacher for teachers and administrators. It was conceived when our Middle School timetable was modified to include an exploratory block offered once per week which we call club day. The intent was to have students chose a quarter year club, four times per year...and the emphasis was on choice. FEATURES 1.NO NEED TO TYPE IN NAMES - Imports students names from any school administration system. 2.ALLOWS STUDENTS TO INDEPENDENTLY CHOOSE - Club Manager allows students to choose the club they want in a safe, secure, and confidential manner. 3.NETWORK SAVVY - Allows for students to select a club from any remote computer connected to the school network or computer lab. In our school, we registered 180 students in 35 minutes on a plain AppleTalk network. 4.COMPLETELY CROSS REFERENCED - generates class lists by club name, teacher advisor group, or entire school alphabetically. Also generates attendance lists. 5.FLEXIBLE - allows for all conceivable problems in a school environment including new students, changed names, adjusting club allocations and de-registering students. 6.EDUCATIONAL - students learn how to do something for themselves and it only takes a few minutes. 7.SECURE - Club Manager is password protected and is completely bullet-proof from student harm via the network. Here are the primary features of the Program Bar, Start Menu and Keyboard Program Switcher. The Program Bar There are four main features of the Program Bar. 1. Clicking on an open program's name will switch to that program. 2. Files dragged and dropped onto programs in the program bar will be opened by that application. 3. Clicking and holding your mouse on a program in the program bar brings up a menu from which you can quit or hide the program. The menu also displays the memory which the program is currently occupying. 4. Clicking on the clock pops up a perpetual calendar. The Start Menu The main features of the Start Menu are listed below. They will be familiar to anyone who has used Windows 95. 1. At startup, GoMac checks the "Start Menu Items" folder in your active System Folder. Any files or folders placed in the Start Menu Items folder appear at the top of the Start Menu. This works exactly like the "Apple Menu Items" folder. Drag items onto the Start button to have GoMac automatically create an alias of them in the Start Menu Items folder, effectively adding them to the Start Menu. 2. Also at startup, GoMac looks for the Applications and Documents folders on the root level of your startup drive. If found, GoMac includes the menu items "Programs" and "Documents" in the Start Menu. The "Programs" menu acts slightly different from the other directory listings in that it only lists applications and it lists the programs at the top of the menu apart from the folders. 3. If you check the "Add Drives menu" in the Start Menu settings page of the GoMac control panel, GoMac will add a dynamically updated list of the volumes available on your Macintosh. 4. And if you have the Apple Menu Options turned on to record recent programs, documents, and servers, GoMac will add a "Recent" menu from which you can access these folders. GoMac does not include the code to record recent programs and documents; it relies on the software provided by Apple. GoMac works best with System 7.5, although it will run under System 7.0. And while color is not required, GoMac works best with at least 16 shades of gray. It will also be the most rapidly evolving application with plans for a new version each month over the next year. If you have ever wanted an application that would keep track of all the pictures on your disk iView is for you. iView goes beyond the Mac's simple scrapbook utility and allows you to view and organize all types of images on all your disks. iView is a grapics utility that can read file formats supported by QuickTime which include JPEG, GIF, Photoshop, Silicon Graphics, grip, jpg, qtif, 8BPS and PICT (soon TIFF and EPS). It can display images as icons, thumbnails, various sizes and via a slide show. After images are found it can remember their location, open the folder the images are in, and launch the application that created the image. A list of images can be saved as a catalog. That catalog can be searched and printed. iView makes extensive use of drag and drop which makes it easy to add images to a catalog. In fact, everything about iView is designed to be simple, useful and intuitive. iView goes beyond the simple Mac scrapbook in many ways. * View by name, view by thumbnail, view by variably sized image. * Maintain many catalogs of images without excessive use of hard disk space * View a variety of formats of images (a growing list determined by QuickTime) * View many images at a time. * Search for particular images in a catalog * Delete many images at once. * Drag files, folders, floppy disks, hard disks, CD's on to the iView window or icon to locate and catalog all image files automatically * iView maintains the address on disk of a file and does not save the actual image file thus saving disk save and avoiding duplicating files. * Choosing an image and choosing open folder will open the folder an image is in. * Choosing an image and choosing launch application will open the image in the application that created it. iView eliminates tedious repetitive work and increases your ability to get the job done. It uses a text window rather than simulating buttons on a hand held calculator. This live scratchpad interface allows you to see and edit your entire calculation. Formulas can be entered directly and different values can be plugged in for easy "what if" calculating. In addition to being a handy little calculator, MathPad can also take on larger problems. Simple plotting allows quick visualization of results. General purpose arrays allow calculations involving vectors, complex numbers, matrix algebra etc. 2D arrays can be displayed as grayscale or color images. Several examples are included showing such things as equation solving, curve fitting, vector calculations and numerical solution of differential equations. MathPad does not have all the features of high-end commercial programs such as Mathematica but it can handle fairly sophisticated numerical problems with a MUCH smaller memory requirement (190K). MathPad 2.4.7 is a minor upgrade intended to replace previously posted versions. Some of the new features: * Saves plot directly to PICT file * XFuns for AppleEvents and Quicktime movies * bug fixes MathPad 2.4 runs on a Mac with a 68020 or better and system 7. This software is free for non-commercial distribution. There are other good or better ways to read text, but I could not find one that allows me to click through my harddisks/cd-roms/(even remote volumes) and look at textfiles/textclippings with a few mouseclicks. While I much prefer EasyView for reading growing collections of (structured) text kept in one folder (like Tidbits or Infomac Digests), TextInspector is great for quickly looking at unrelated pieces of text spreaded over many folders or disks. TextInspector has some other nice features (e.g. quick renaming of text clippings to something more meaningful than "text clipping" with a simple mouseclick). Attention: TextInspector ONLY displays textfiles and textclippings. It does not even attempt to display other files ! If you primarily rely on a texteditor or Nisus Writer to compose text, or if you store a lot of textfiles/textclippings on your harddrive, this stack could be very useful to you. If you use any other Wordprocessor, you will not even SEE your files in TextInspector. In this case you (probably) do not need this stack. TextInspector makes extensive use of many great Freeware XCMDs and XFCNs. Credits to their respective authors inside the documentation. Requirements: Hypercard(Player) 2.2 or newer. A 13 inch screen (640 x 480) or larger. =A9 Jens Auers, 1997.
